One of our favorite things to do is play board games. Owen and Thomas enjoy deconstructing games and building them with new rules or new pieces. This helps them to better understand the game and put their own spin on it. The game Ticket to Ride has so many cool variations. There’s the original US map, Europe, Africa, UK … but there isn’t an edition … Continue reading …boardgames together!
… marbles together
Beth here… During what we’re calling Camp Grandma, we did marbling. It was on our list of crafts for the week, and all week I envisioned using actual marbles, but mom set me straight. It’s a technique that results in a marbling pattern on paper. We first filled a shallow pan (9×13) with a special thickened marbling solution. And after dropping special paint onto the … Continue reading … marbles together
…grows together
Start them journaling while they are young. This is McKenzie McDonough, Betty’s youngest great-grandchild. She is working in her journal after a day at the beach. I think she expressed her feelings pretty well. Continue reading …grows together
…competes together
Some of us Krausmans live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. We’re big fans of the Staunton Augusta Art Center, which brings amazing exhibits to our town and offers events and classes for all ages. …tie-dyes together
Beth McDonough here, daughter of Ruth Bethea. Tie-dying is a family favorite of ours and this time we tried a couple of different folding techniques— a crinkle effect & the American flag fold, in addition to our tried & true spiral fold. Mom helped us fold, dye, & rinse these festive shirts that we can’t wait to wear! Another creation we made was a series … Continue reading …tie-dyes together

…..sings together
My family sings. Some of my earliest memories involve singing in Sunday school, on long car trips, at home and really just anywhere we happened to be. My brother’s favorites were the silly gross songs (“the worms crawl in, the worms crawl out…..” )…my older sister loved singing along with Elvis and Ricky Nelson and Edith Piaf. Ruthie and I most enjoyed the Beatles and … Continue reading …..sings together

…paints together
I am Ruth Anne, one of Betty’s daughters. Every year we paint a magnolia bloom. The trees are tall and towering making the flowers a bit of a challenge to pick. This year Addy picked us one from her neighbor’s yard. Continue reading …paints together
Magnolias
This is my watercolor and acrylic painting of the beautiful magnolia flower. It has 9 petals and a bright yellow center with tiny red filaments. The magnolia tree predates the “bee”. It is thought that beetles pollinated this flower. Ruth B Below is Moms painting. The interesting star burst on the right was created with salt on wet watercolor. Continue reading Magnolias
